PLM Event Featuring Debbie Stabenow

Born in Gladwin and raised in Clare, U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow became the first woman to represent Michigan in the United States Senate when she was elected in 2000. Today, she is recognized as a national leader for her ability to build coalitions to get things done for Michigan and our nation.

Her career has mirrored the advancement of women in politics over the past 30 years. From her election as the first woman to chair the Ingham County Board of Commissioners, to her historic election in 2000 to the U.S. Senate, to becoming Chairwoman of the Senate Agriculture Committee in 2011, she has led the way in breaking down barriers for women and becoming one of Michigan’s most influential and accomplished leaders.

Among her many accomplishments, she cut taxes for small businesses and passed initiatives to revitalize our manufacturing sector. In addition to her leadership of the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry, she is also a senior member of the Finance, Energy, and Budget Committees.
