PLM event Featuring Chris MacInnes
Chris is a Benzie County native who, with her husband Jim, moved from Southern California in 1985 to join their family-owned business, Crystal Mountain. She is a graduate of St. Lawrence University in Canton, N.Y with a BA in German. She studied at the University of Vienna, in Austria and has pursued graduate studies in business management at Lake Superior State University. Prior to joining Crystal Mountain Chris had extensive experience in the sales, marketing and product management of outdoor power equipment for McCulloch Corporation, Jacobsen, a division of Textron, Inc. and J.I. Case Company. She began her career as a sales manager for Yamaha International in the sporting goods division with territories in the Midwest and East Coast.
Chris and her husband Jim are active in Crystal Mountain’s day-to-day operations and development activities. She is president of the resort’s development company, Crystal Properties, Inc., chief operating officer of its operating company, Crystal Enterprises, Inc and serves on the company’s board of directors.
Since 1985 Chris and Jim have lead over eighty million dollars in capital investment to create a nationally recognized resort community and one of northern Michigan’s largest job providers. Recently Crystal was named to Conde Nast’s Top 50 list of winter resorts and hotels, honored as the 2010 Business of the Year by the Benzie County Chamber, and awarded a Certificate of Excellence by Trip Advisor.
In addition to her responsibilities at Crystal, Chris is active in the community and industry. Currently she serves on the Munson Healthcare and Priority Health Board of Board of Directors, and the Executive Committee of the Michigan Economic Development Corporation. She was also just elected an officer of the newly formed America’s Summer Golf Capital Association.
In 2002 she was appointed by the Governor to the Michigan Travel Commission and also the Michigan Land Use Leadership Council. Other leadership positions have included chairperson of the Michigan State Chamber and the Traverse City Area Chamber, and president of the Benzie County Economic Development Co. She is a member of Rotary International and was named a Paul Harris Fellow. She is also an associate member of the Urban Land Institute. In 2000 she received the Athena Award, primarily recognizing her mentoring relationships, and in 2008 was the recipient of the Traverse City Area Chamber’s Distinguished Service Award. She is in the St. Lawrence University Athletic Hall of Fame for her contributions to the St. Lawrence University Ski Team.
The MacInnes reside in Beulah overlooking Crystal Lake with their two cats, and know they are most fortunate to live, work and play in Northern Michigan.
